Home School Your Dog!
At-home training is a lifelong process with your dog. Certainly, the earlier you start training a puppy, the better, but these skills can be taught to adolescent and adult dogs, as well. Many of the behaviors you work on at home are not covered in group classes, such as teaching your dog to wait at a door, teaching your dog not to countersurf, teaching your dog not to jump on people, and teaching your dog to rest quietly on a mat.

My book, "Home Schooling Your Dog" covers all these behaviors and more! The book is full of pictures demonstrating how to train these mannerly behaviors. It's available on Amazon and Dogwise.com. You can search by the title, or by my name: Pamela Leland. My Published Books page has a direct link for purchasing.

In addition to these 'good manners' behaviors, there is a host of behaviors that you can train in short training sessions every day or every other day. When I first get a puppy or dog, I use their meal times as a training session. With homeschooling, you can train when you have time.

Home schooling is a terrific way to make training part of your daily routine. It is perfect for busy families; for someone with limited mobility, such as someone who is recovering from orthopedic surgery or who might have a disability; and for kids who want to be part of training their dog.

I'm including links to training videos that are on my YouTube site. These will give you ideas on what to work on and get you off to a great start! Feel free to share the links with friends and family.

You get the dog you train (or don't train) so make training an important part of your life!
